Employee accuses Blue Shield of discrimination

HOUSTON — A Texas woman is suing Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, alleging sex and age discrimination.

Monica Vils-Brawner filed a complaint on April 22, in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas Inc. and Health Care Service Corporation, alleging age discrimination, hostile work environment, retaliation, age sexual discrimination.

According to the complaint, between June 19, 2015, and March 11, 2016, Vils-Brawner, 59, experienced discrimination after her immediate supervisor resigned from his position. The plaintiff alleges the defendants denied her a promotion, for which, as a 10-year veteran of the company, she was clearly qualified and also issued false statements against her.

Vils-Brawner seeks a trial by jury, all damages, interest, all legal fees and any other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorneys Nasim Ahmad of Cline Ahmad in Houston and Joseph Y. Ahmad of Ahmad, Zavitsanos, Anaipakos, Alavi & Mensing PC in Houston.
