Paralegal alleges former employers failed to pay overtime

Late 06

HOUSTON — A Houston paralegal is suing her former employers, alleging failure to pay overtime.

Judith Cardenas filed a lawsuit Aug. 30 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Lewis Chandler and Sherry Chandler, alleging violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

According to the complaint, Cardenas routinely worked more than 40 hours per week as a paralegal between May 2012 and September 2014 but was not paid a corresponding overtime premium. The plaintiff alleges the Chandlers failed to pay her one and one half times her regular rate of pay for all hours worked in excess of 40 per week as required by FLSA.

Cardenas seeks trial by jury, an order declaring the defendants’ violations of FLSA are willful, unpaid overtime wages and bonuses, liquidated damages, attorney fees, court costs and expenses, plus all other relief as required by law. She is represented by attorney Charles A. Sturm of Sturm Law PLLC in Houston.
