A Harris County resident has filed a lawsuit against two major hotel corporations, alleging negligence that resulted in severe personal injuries. Princess Kent initiated the legal action on May 7, 2025, in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, naming Marriott Hotel Services LLC and Atrium Hospitality Group LLC as defendants.

The case stems from an incident on September 30, 2023, when Kent was staying at a hotel operated by the defendants located at 9100 Gulf Freeway in Houston. According to the complaint, a leak from the ceiling of her hotel room created a hazardous condition that was neither obvious nor marked with warning signs. As Kent exited the bathroom in her room, she slipped on water accumulated on the floor due to this leak and sustained serious injuries. The plaintiff claims that both Marriott and Atrium were aware of this dangerous condition but failed to take necessary precautions or provide adequate warnings to prevent such accidents.

Kent argues that the defendants' negligence is evident as they had control over the premises and failed to ensure its safety for invitees like herself. The complaint accuses them of not remedying known hazards and neglecting to warn guests about potential dangers. Furthermore, it highlights several specific failures by the defendants and their employees: inadequate maintenance policies, insufficient employee training regarding hazard prevention, and overall lack of reasonable care expected under Texas law.

In addition to direct negligence claims, Kent seeks to hold Marriott and Atrium vicariously liable for their employees' actions under the doctrine of respondeat superior. This legal principle holds employers accountable for negligent acts committed by employees within their scope of employment.

The plaintiff is seeking substantial monetary compensation exceeding $1 million for damages incurred due to her injuries. These damages include past and future medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages and earning capacity, physical impairment and disfigurement, loss of household services, court costs, and pre-judgment as well as post-judgment interest.

Representing Princess Kent is attorney Randall O. Sorrels from Sorrels Law based in Houston. The case has been assigned Case ID 2025-32421 in the 113th Judicial District Court with Judge Chandra Lawson presiding over it.
