DALLAS – A lawsuit against conservative commentator Ben Shapiro has been dismissed – a complaint brought by the father of Ahmed Mohamed, the Muslim teen who became known as “clock boy” after being arrested for bringing a homemade timepiece to school in a pencil case.

On Feb. 2, The Blaze reported Shapiro, editor-in-chief for Daily Wire, was also awarded attorney’s fees.

“This is an excellent day for free speech,” Shapiro said on a post on his website.

“Using law as warfare is perhaps the most disgusting tactic of politically correct activists across the country, and we couldn’t be more excited to stand up against such frivolous use of our court system. My initial comments suggested that false charges of Islamophobia only muddy the waters when it comes to policing actual dangerous activity, and I’m proud to fight back against such charges.”

The lawsuit, filed in September, was the second of its kind and also named Fox News and Glenn Beck as defendants and cited them for defamation.

Beck was dismissed from the lawsuit in January.

The first suit was filed on Aug. 1 by Mohamed Elhassan, Ahmed’s father, against defendants Irving ISD, Principal Daniel Cummings, and the city of Irving.

Court records show the defendants are currently fighting to have the suit dismissed.

Ahmed was a freshman at MacArthur High School when the incident occurred on Sept. 14, 2015. The boy sought to demonstrate his technical abilities to his teachers by assembling a digital clock, which he brought to school in a pencil case.

Ahmed was detained and interrogated by Irving police officers but never charged.
