Daughters blame wellness center for mother's death

HOUSTON — Two daughters are suing a Katy wellness center, alleging wrongful death.

Miranda Carrasco and Cecillia Carrasco-Ponce, individually and as executors of the estate of Nelda Leblanc filed a complaint May 30 in Harris County District Court against Heritage Park of Katy LLC, alleging the wellness center failed to properly monitor and supervise residents at their facility.

According to the complaint, on June 25, 2015, LeBlanc was attempting to smoke a cigarette at Heritage Park of Katy and ended up dying due to severe burns. Prior to her death, the suit says, LeBlanc suffered physical pain and mental anguish. 

The plaintiffs say they suffered suffered pecuniary losses for the death of their mother. and allege Heritage Park of Katy negligently allowed an elderly person with dementia to smoke alone and failed to respond and to treat the fire-related injury.

The plaintiffs seek trial by jury, monetary relief of more than $2 million and all other equitable relief. They are represented by attorney Richard J. Plezia of Richard J. Plezia & Associates in Houston.
