HOUSTON – A dock worker is pursuing legal action in response to injuries he allegedly suffered while working at a Houston Ship Channel facility a few months ago, recent Harris County District Court records indicate.

Jose Vasquez’s lawsuit, which was filed on Jan. 18 in the Harris County 157th District Court, faults SGS North America Inc. for the Oct. 14, 2017, incident in question.

Employed by Stolt-Nelson USA Inc., the suit states, Vasquez was helping tie off a barge to a dock near the Stolthaven Houston Terminal. An employee of the defendant reportedly lowered the gangway too early as the barge had not been yet secured, resulting in the plaintiff walking on the gangway and falling into the ship channel.

According to the complaint, Vasquez suffered a major injury to his left knee and a bacteria problem throughout his body.

Court documents accuse the respondent of negligent hiring and training, asserting the complainant did nothing to cause the subject event.

Consequently, Vasquez seeks unspecified monetary damages.

He is represented by Curtis J. Bickers and Vuk S. Vujasinovic of the law firm VB Attorneys in Houston.
