BEAUMONT – The Ferguson Law Firm has just added “one of the best lawyers you’ll find anywhere,” firm founder Paul “Chip” Ferguson recently announced.
Returning to his hometown, Mark Sparks is leaving the Mostyn Law Firm in Houston to continue his noteworthy legal career as Ferguson Law’s newest partner.
“I am truly home,” Sparks said. “I was born and raised in Beaumont and am excited to work with The Ferguson Law Firm – trial lawyers fighting for Southeast Texans.”

Ferguson called the addition “a dream come true” for the law firm, noting that “the key to a great law firm is great people.”
“Not only did we get a great lawyer in Mark Sparks, we got a great person,” he added.
Co-partner Jane Swearingen Leger described Mark Sparks as “one of the smartest, hard-working lawyers I know,” adding that he is a “ferocious advocate for his clients.”
Sparks, Ferguson and Leger all share a history together as former attorneys of the Provost Umphrey Law Firm. After parting from PU and going their separate ways, they’ve all reunited at Ferguson Law.
Sparks, a twenty-year legal veteran, graduated cum laude from the University of Texas School of Law in 1997 and clerked for U.S. Chief Judge Thad Heartfield. He then moved into the private practice of law, specializing in personal injury, products liability and related civil litigation.
“Lawyers owe their clients an exacting standard of honesty and fidelity,” Sparks said. “The Ferguson Law Firm lawyers not only recognize these duties, they nurture them. I’m honored to be a part of a firm which celebrates the attorney-client relationship—right here in Southeast Texas where I grew up.”
Sparks’ efforts to represent those unable to afford an attorney led to his being honored as the Jefferson County Bar Association 2013 Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year.
“Mark has earned tremendous respect within the legal community, from the judiciary and attorneys alike,” Ferguson said. “He has earned it by working hard, being honest and caring for his client. I echo what others say – he is one of the best lawyers you’ll find anywhere.”
Leger shared Ferguson’s sentiments, saying that Sparks was “well-respected in the legal community both locally and nationwide.”
The Ferguson Law Firm is coming off a record year that brought in more than $160,000,000 in settlements and verdicts for their clients.
