HOUSTON – The parties in an ex-firefighter’s wrongful termination lawsuit against a local governmental entity have a year to settle their differences, per a recently filed docket control order.

As previously reported by The Southeast Texas Record, Waller County resident Jeramie Casiano sued Harris County Emergency Services District 48 on claims it fired him for being a whistleblower.

“It was clear that leadership of ESD 48 took the first opportunity that presented itself to terminate Mr. Casiano as a result of his correspondence outlining the concerns he had regarding leadership and the misuse of government property,” the suit asserts.

ESD formally responded to Casiano’s allegations a month after being sued.

Harris County District Court records show that the case will go to trial in July 2019. Harris County 129th District Court Judge Michael Gomez signed the order late last month.

The defendant is represented by Phillip W. Bechter and David L. Louie of the law firm Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP in Houston.
