Deckhand on St. Michael 1 alleges he injured head, ribs when rope broke

Lawsuits

BEAUMONT – A deckhand alleges he was injured when the rope he was pulling broke, causing him to fall and hit his head.

Tuyen Tran filed a complaint on Aug. 8 in the Jefferson County District Court against Elizabeth Minhoavh Nguyen and M/V St. Michael 1 alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Sept. 21, 2017, he was a deckhand working aboard defendant's M/V St. Michael 1. While out shrimping, the suit states he fell back while pulling a rope that broke, causing him to fall and hit his head. He alleges he suffered severe injuries to his ribs, back, shoulder and other parts of the body as a result of the incident.

The plaintiff holds Nguyen and M/V St. Michael 1 responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly train and supervise their crew and failed to safely operate the vessel.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $200,000 but less than $1 million and such other and further relief as the court deems just and proper. He is represented by M. Paul Skrabanek and Betty Feng of Pierce Skrabanek PLLC in Houston.
