HOUSTON – Dallas law firm Carrington Coleman has filed a lawsuit on behalf of a woman who claims she was sexually assaulted in her Kemah hotel room, according to recent Harris County District Court records.
The 4-page suit, which was filed on Aug. 31 in the Harris County 215th District Court, accuses Seabrook resident Ryan Landry of attacking Emma J. Gingerich last Feb. 9 and subsequently harassing her on social media.
Gingerich and Landry reportedly met at a bar near the Kemah Boardwalk following a business meeting. The plaintiff attempted to leave as the get-together winded down, but the defendant stopped her and asked her to stay longer and talk, the suit says.
Court papers state that Gingerich told Landry she would not be drinking though the respondent pressured her. After Landry purportedly made Gingerich touch him in an inappropriate manner, the plaintiff left the bar.
The original petition recalls the defendant taking Gingerich back to her hotel since she realized that she did not know the directions.
Upon their arrival, the suit states, Landry forced his way into the elevator with Gingerich, and once they got to her room, the defendant went into the restroom, emerged while taking off his clothes, and proceeded to sexually molest her.
Gingerich says that she tried to fight him off. Landry eventually stopped, but as he left the room, he repeatedly told her, “This is your fault,” the suit says.
It adds that the complainant “has spent several thousand dollars on medical care, including therapy to recover from the trauma.”
A jury trial is requested.
