Female Port Arthur police officer files suit over retaliation allegations

BEAUMONT – A female police officer for the city of Port Arthur alleges she was retaliated against for filing a discrimination complaint.

Wendy Billiot filed a complaint on Aug. 28 in the Jefferson County District Court against the city of Port Arthur Police Department and the city of Port Arthur alleging that they violated the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act and Texas Labor Code.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began working for the defendants as a police officer in 1993. She alleges she was improperly retaliated against and targeted for harassment after she made a report of gender discrimination.

The plaintiff alleges she has suffered and will continue to suffer emotional distress because of the defendants' actions.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual, compensatory and punitive damages; costs of court; interest; attorney's fees and all other relief deemed just and proper. She is represented by Jane S. Leger of Ferguson Law Firm LLP in Beaumont.
