GALVESTON – A Brazoria County consumer alleges a collection agency is attempting to collect a purported debt from her minor child.

Mindy R. Baragar filed a complaint on Oct. 9 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Northland Group LLC alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Texas Debt Collection Act and the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the defendant mailed a debt collection letter to the plaintiff's minor child in March regarding an alleged debt owed to Epic Medical Solutions. The plaintiff alleges the minor is not liable for the alleged debt.

The plaintiff holds Northland Group LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly used false and misleading representations in an attempt to collect an alleged debt.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual and statutory damages, costs of court, attorney’s fees and such other and further relief as the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Daniel J. Ciment of Ciment Law Firm PLLC in Katy.
