GALVESTON – Three defendants in a lawsuit arising from the August death of an infant girl have formally responded to the litigation, recent Galveston County District Court records show.

Terry Fitzgerald of the law firm Royston, Rayzor, Vickery & Williams, L.L.P. in Houston filed an original answer on behalf of Bullock’s Bright Beginnings, L.L.C. and its proprietors, Cory and Summer Bullock, into Jared and Lindsey McNeel’s suit on Nov. 19.

The McNeels allege that they entrusted their daughter, Skylar Mae, to the Kiddie Academy of League City last Aug. 27 only for the child to take “her last nap forever” when an employee of the daycare laid her face down on her stomach in a crib that was not “blanket free,” which was purportedly a violation of the respondents’ own “Infant/Toddler Safe Sleep Policy” and state standards.

The girl “died from asphyxiation during her nap due to the negligence of the defendants,” according to the suit.

Describing Skylar Mae McNeel’s passing as “unfortunate,” the Bullock Defendants deny responsibility.

Their co-defendant, Kiddie Academy International, Inc., has yet to answer the suit, according to court records.
