HOUSTON – A Harris County woman alleges she was injured at a home improvement store by a metal hook and incurred thousands in medical expenses.

Cheri Morrell filed a complaint on Jan. 3 in the Harris County District Court against Home Depot USA Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 18, 2017, she was standing outside defendant's Home Depot Store No. 1832 on Houston Parkway when she was struck by a metal hook. The suit states an individual was taking apart a ramp and a strap broke, causing the metal hook to break away. The plaintiff alleges she incurred medical expenses of more than $15,000.

The plaintiff holds Home Depot USA Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly breached its duty to make sure employees or those acting at their direction perform tasks and duties in a safe manner.

The plaintiff seeks actual and special damages, costs, expenses and such other and further relief to which she is entitled. She is represented by David K. Mestemaker, Norman Straub and Jonathan B. Zumwalt of Mestemaker & Straub in Houston.
