HOUSTON – A Mississippi seaman is suing his employers following an apparent mishap with a piece of equipment, according to recent Harris County District Court records.

Derrick Oliver filed a lawsuit against Parker Drilling Co. and Parker Drilling Co. North America, Inc. on Jan. 30 in the 129th District Court, claiming that a set of tongs he was using on a rig slipped and struck him on the left side of his body.

“The force caused Mr. Oliver to lift off the rig floor,” the original petition says.

Asserting he was using the tongs as he was trained, the plaintiff states that the tools were “unsafe and unfit.”

Consequently, Oliver seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

The complainant is represented by The Webster Law Firm in Houston.
