HOUSTON – A Harris County resident is seeking damages from a Houston grocery store over allegations a cooler shelf caused a fall.

Tuyet Do filed a complaint on Feb. 12 in the Harris County District Court against Hong Land Corp., doing business as Hong Kong Food Market No. 3, and John Doe alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 21, 2017, the plaintiff was shopping at defendant's Hong Kong Food Market grocery store on Veterans Memorial Drive in Houston. The suit states as the plaintiff was walking in the cold foods section, an employee of the defendant was cleaning one of the coolers and placed a shelf onto a grocery cart without securing it. The suit states the shelf fell to the floor and caused the plaintiff to trip and fall face first.

The plaintiff holds Hong Land Corp. and Doe responsible because the Hong Land Corp. allegedly negligently hired and retained employees and/or contractors and failed to properly train and supervise them.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $200,000 but less than $1 million and such other and further relief to which plaintiff may be justly entitled. The plaintiff is represented by Sarah Y-Nhi Huynh and Pavel "Paul" Savinov of The Huynh Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
