HOUSTON — A Houston woman is suing United Airlines, alleging she was defamed when she requested time off to tend to medical concerns.

Tracey L. Harris filed a complaint March 24 in Harris County District Court against United Airlines, alleging defamation.

According to the complaint, Harris was employed by United Airlines for nine years and says she always maintained a good reputation in regards to safety and doing her work. The suit says her job included marshaling planes into and out of gates, plus loading and unloading bags, freight and cargo.

Harris alleges on March 23, 2017, United published/said that the plaintiff's request for time off for the treatment of her sciatica and arthritis was unwarranted when she brought it to the attention of a doctor who worked for United Airlines.

The plaintiff alleges her name was mentioned in materials in a slanderous manner, with explicitly false details. Harris says she already has sustained loss, injury, suffering and damages because of the defendant's treatment of her.

Harris seeks compensatory damages, cost of the suit and other just relief as well as payment of $30 million. The plaintiff is representing herself.
