Elevator passenger alleges doors closed on her arm

Lawsuits

HOUSTON — A Houston woman is suing an elevator company and property owners, alleging her arm was crushed when elevator doors closed on her.

Beverly Griffin filed a complaint Aug. 26 in Harris County District Court against SLS Houston Properties LLC, SLS Building Management LLC and Thyssenkrupp Elevator Corporation, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Griffin entered an elevator on Nov. 10, 2017, at 2636 South Loop West, Houston, when the doors closed on the plaintiff. The suit alleges Griffin sustained debilitating injuries to her right arm and other body parts. She says this necessitated treatment and surgery.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to remedy a dangerous condition or warn of the potential hazard and failed to properly inspect the premises.

Griffin seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, attorney fees, court costs, interest and all just relief. She is represented by attorneys Michael P. Fleming and Audrey Manito of Michael P. Fleming & Associates PC in Houston.
