MISSION - Abraham Padron has announced his candidacy for Texas State Representative, District 36.

Padron has the determination, courage, and credentials to be an active, vocal, and results-driven advocate in the Texas Legislature, a press release states.

Regarding his motivation to run, Padron stated, “I have been closely monitoring the actions of our current legislator, and I am deeply concerned about the future of our District. It’s a feeling shared by many constituents and many local elected officials. I will bring back selfless public service and integrity to District 36.”

In 1997, Padron opened his first insurance office. From a small two-person office, the business evolved into what is now SafeGuard Insurance Agency. SafeGuard now operates ten locations providing services to over 20,000 families from Brownsville to Laredo.

“The community has provided me the opportunity to build a successful small business. I owe the community a debt of gratitude, and I am now ready to faithfully pay it back with my service,” Abraham said.

As a small business owner, and a lifelong resident of District 36, Padron understands the needs of the residents in his District. Abraham and his wife Delfa now reside in Mission, Texas, and have two children – Alec, 23, and Anna, 6.

In the coming weeks, Padron will release a comprehensive plan for voters that will focus on four key priorities: • Reviving the public trust • Stimulating economic development • Encouraging regional and statewide collaboration • Acquiring state funding for District 36.

“Progress in District 36 has been held back by the incumbent’s poor judgement, lack of meaningful legislative contributions, and personal legal problems,” Padron said. “Our families want to feel meaningfully represented, and they deserve a strong advocate in Austin who understands their needs,” he continued. “I will be the voice that puts their interests first, and I will fight for the resources needed to raise the quality of life in our District,” he added.

Early voting begins Feb. 18. Election Day is March 3.
