HOUSTON — A Texas woman claims a San Diego law firm attempting to collect her debt coerced and misled her into a false settlement.

Candy Stormer filed a complaint Jan. 10 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Patenaude & Felix alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Act.

Stormer received a collection letter from the defendants on April 17, 2019 in regards to a $3,467.29 consumer debt. She alleges the letter included a prompt payment settlement offer of $2,080.38 that would result in $1,386.92 debt forgiveness. Stormer claims the letter was deceptive and misleading because it did not inform her that she may have to pay additional money in taxes on the debt forgiveness.

Stormer seeks monetary and all other just relief. She is represented by Nathan Volheim, Taxiarchis Hatzidimitriadis, Eric Coleman and Alejandro Figueroa of The Sulaiman Law Group LTD in Lombard, Illinois.
