HOUSTON — A truck operator claims he was exposed to hazardous chemicals while picking up a load at Westlake Chemical and suffered chemical poisoning.

John Willis filed a complaint Feb. 4 in the Harris County District Court against Westlake Chemical Corporation alleging breach of warranty, strict liability, negligence and other claims.

Willis, who worked as a truck operator, contracted with Westlake to pick up a load at its chemical plant on Jan. 14. He alleges that while at the plant, he was exposed to Trichlorethylene Fluorocarbon and other hazardous chemicals that caused him to suffer from chemical poisoning and chemical-based pneumonia. He was hospitalized and suffered injuries to his lungs and brain. Willis claims Westlake failed to warn him of the exposure and allowed him to drive his truck back to Harris County.

Willis seeks monetary relief in excess of $1 million, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Nicholas Morrow, John Sheppard and Patrick McGinnis of Morrow & Sheppard LLP in Houston.
