FORT WORTH — A man alleges he received false threats of damage to his credit and litigation over a $75 parking ticket he received by mistake.

Christopher Durand filed a complaint  Feb. 20 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas Fort Worth Division against Beyer & Associates LLC, Parking Revenue Recovery Services (PRRS) Inc., and Hudson Insurance Company alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Durand parked his car in a private lot in Fort Worth on Dec. 6, 2019 owned by Cowtown Parking. He alleges that despite paying for a $7 parking pass at the self-service machine and having photographic evidence of his displaying the parking pass in his front windshield, he received a $75 ticket. In December of 2019 while Durand was still disputing the ticket, it was turned over to PRRS who he claims made false threats of "financial injury to his credit reports" and threats of legal action.

Durand seeks monetary relief, statutory damages up to $1,000, trial by jury, interest and all proper relief. He is represented by Shawn Jaffer of The Shawn Jaffer Law Firm PLLC in Dallas.
