HOUSTON — University Place Retirement and Memorial Hermann Health are facing a medical negligence suit alleging a woman suffered multiple falls and injuries while under their care.

Donna Butler and Sandra Tubbs, as next of friends for Sharon Jones filed a complaint Feb. 24 in the Harris County District Court against University Place Retirement Community, Memorial Hermann Health System and University Place Nursing Center alleging medical negligence.

Jones, who suffered from dementia and muscle weakness, was admitted to University Place Nursing on Feb. 23, 2018 after sustaining a hip fracture when she fell at her home. The plaintiffs allege that while at University Place, her bed alarm failed to work and Jones was found on the floor on multiple occasions after falling which caused a new fracture. They claim the defendants knew of Jones' fall risk and failed to provide adequate supervision and appropriate measures to prevent the falls.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million. They are represented by Melanie Medina of Brown Christie & Green in Houston.
