SAN ANTONIO — A woman claims a debt collection agency falsely threatened to garnish her wages and then illegally charged more than $1,000 to her credit card without her consent.

Jessica Tejada filed a complaint Feb. 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas San Antonio Division against I.Q. Data International Inc., alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Tejada had a lease for an apartment which she broke early and was left with a balance. She alleges that she contacted I.Q., on Jan. 21, 2020, who was collecting the debt in an attempt to dispute the $4,000 balance. Tejada claims they threatened to "lien" her paycheck so she paid $800 towards the debt and alleges I.Q. then charged more than $1,000 to her credit card without her consent.

Tejada seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Mohammed Badwan and Joseph Davidson of The Sulaiman Law Group LTD in Lombard, Illinois.
