Woman claims debt collector made harassing calls to her place of work

HOUSTON — A woman is claiming a debt collection company, Northtown Capital, made harassing phone calls to her place of work in violation of federal and state law. 

Cynthia Grant filed a complaint Feb. 28 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Northtown Capital Services Group LLC alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Texas Debt Collection Act. 

Grant alleges in her complaint that in February of 2020, Northtown began to attempt to collect her debt by making harassing calls to herplace of work. She claims that on Feb. 24, 2020, Northtown made three calls to her office  despite being told by the receptionist to stop calling. Grant alleges the harassment has caused disruption to her place of work and that Northtown used false and deceptive collection efforts.
