Woman who underwent five plastic surgery procedures at one time suffered complications, sues for more than $1M

HOUSTON — A woman who underwent five different plastic surgery procedures and suffered life-threatening complications is claiming medical malpractice. 

Shawana Gaines filed a complaint March 9 in the Harris County District Court against Steven Kronowitz, M.D., alleging negligence.

Gaines underwent plastic surgery performed by Kronowitz on Feb. 19, 2018, that included a reduction mammoplasty, abdominoplasty, thigh and buttock lifts and liposuction. She alleges that during the surgery, Kronowitz ignored several safety warnings from the nursing staff and anesthesiologist that to stop the procedure due to her developing hypothermia. Gaines claims Kronowitz's disregard for her safety caused her to suffer a pulmonary embolism, blood loss, wound infections and other life-threatening issues. 

Gaines seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Chidi Anunobi of Anunobilaw PLLC in Houston.
