HOUSTON – On May 19, the Harris County Commissioners Court gave the green light to pursue litigation against any parties who may be responsible for damages to the Jury Assembly Building during Hurricane Harvey.
The court voted to approve retaining Norman Jolly, a law firm with decades of experience in construction defect litigation.
According to the notice of public hearing, entering into a contingent fee contract with the firm is in the best interest of Harris County residents.
“The outcome of this matter weights as much on the Firm as it does on the Client this way,” the notice states. “The Firm will be paid the amount of the percentage-based contingency fee, regardless the number of hours the Firm spends litigating and researching.”
First Assistant County Attorney Robert Soard told The Record that the contract that will be submitted to the Commissioners Court for approval will be a contingency fee contract and will contain the lodestar component, as required by Texas Government Code Section 2254.106.
Soard also said the contract will also be submitted to the Office of the Attorney General for approval after Commissioners Court authorization.
