HOUSTON – A day after Gov. Greg Abbott issued a statewide mask mandate, state Rep. Briscoe Cain tweeted: “Get fined for not wearing a mask? I will gladly represent you. FOR FREE.”

The order, which went into effect last Friday, requires individuals in Texas counties with more than 20 COVID-19 cases to wear a face covering while in a place of business or public building.

Texas was one of the first states to aggressively begin reopening but a resurgence of the virus led the governor to rethink his position of late.

As previously reported, Abbott was sued last month by numerous bar owners alleging he trampled on their rights with his shutdown order.

Now, it seems some Texans are calling for a class action lawsuit over the mask mandate, at least on Cain’s Twitter account that is.

Cain, an attorney who represents House District 128, did not respond to requests for comment. However, his social media posts may say it all.

“It’s ok to support choosing to wear a mask to protect others from your respiratory system while at the same time opposing government force making people wear a mask,” Cain Tweeted on July 8.

Cain even started a poll on his Twitter account: “Which do you fear more doing in public? Coughing (or) Slipping a fart.”

The majority (64.4 percent) of the 317 people who voted in the poll checked slipping a fart.

Back in early May, Cain started a petition to reopen Texas for business.

Cain, an attorney with the Fulton Strahan Law Group, was also one of the attorneys who represented Shelly Luther, the salon owner who was thrown in jail after refusing to close her doors.
