HOUSTON — Break-Starr Holdings is facing a suit by a former employee who claims he was fired in retaliation for filing a workers' compensation claim after being injured on the job.

Vorenta Williams filed a complaint July 16 in Harris County District Court alleging workers' compensation retaliation.

Williams alleges that on July 18, 2018, he suffered an on-the-job injury and immediately notified his supervisor and submitted a workers' compensation claim. Williams claims in the suit that he was fired on Aug. 18, 2019, due to a "pre-textual reason" and that his termination was retaliation for filing the workers' compensation claim. He also claims that losing his job caused "substantial economic losses and severe mental anguish." Williams claims his termination from Break-Starr violates the Texas Labor Code and common law because he was allegedly punished for filing the workers' compensation claim.

Williams seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Josue Garza of Garza Aguirre PLLC in San Antonio.
