HOUSTON — A teacher is suing a Southwest Houston school district claiming he was falsely accused of "mishandling" a student and fired in retaliation for his previous Title VII legal fillings against other school districts.

Robert Green filed a complaint Aug. 4 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Alief Independent School District alleging violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1991.

Green worked for the Alief Independent School District as a teacher from August 1999 through May 2000 and again from August 2014 through Dec. 2018. He alleges in his complaint that in May of 2018, he was "falsely accused" of "mishandling a student" and as a result was suspended with pay during an investigation.

Green claims a month later he was told by the district's human resources that they had "video evidence" that showed his "horrific" handling of the student and was encouraged to resign. He claims that when he refused to resign and returned to work after his suspension, he was kept out of the classroom and was assigned to fueling buses and shredding paperwork.

A hearing officer found the video showed Green did not mishandle the student and he claims in his complaint that he was actually fired for filing prior Title VII lawsuits against other school districts and because of his race.

Green seeks monetary relief, interest and all other proper relief. He is represented by Nicole Howard of The Howard Law Firm PLLC in Sugar Land and Victoria Palnte-Northington of The Plante Law Firm PC in Houston.
