BEAUMONT – While traversing a stairwell, Andre Johnlewis hit his head on a scaffold crossbar, suffering injuries so severe that he had to be life flighted to a hospital.

Through The Ferguson Law Firm, a petition for depositions to investigate claims was filed on Aug. 11 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the petition, on July 31 Johnlewis worked for American Pollution Control and was part of a crew aboard a vessel. While entering the center stairwell, he struck his head on one of the crossbars of scaffolding constructed by Apache Industrial.

Johnlewis did not know the scaffolding had been installed.

“As Petitioner walked up the center stairs, he struck his head on the crossbar causing him to strike his head, back, and body on the deck floor,” the petition states. “His left foot was stuck in the steps of the staircase. Petitioner became unconscious at the scene and started foaming at the mouth. Rescue crews came and lifted him by crane in a basket to the dock where he was transported to a hospital.

“As one can imagine, this incident caused serious and permanent injuries to Petitioner and his family.”

Ferguson Law attorney Cody Dishon represents Johnlewis.

Judge Justin Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. B-206147
