HOUSTON – A barratry lawsuit against Texas Law Shield and the Walker & Rice law firm will continue, as the 14th Court of Appeals has axed a judgment against them.
Court records show Texas Law Shield and the Walker & Rice appealed a final judgment in favor of Brad and Terrilyn Crowley, who sued the firms for barratry (ambulance chasing).
The case has been before the 14th Court before. In 2016, justices reversed a class-certification order.
Texas Law Shield defends members against any criminal or civil charges arising from use of a gun. The plaintiffs allege improper solicitation.
On Aug. 20, the 14th Court reversed a summary judgment win on the barratry claim, remanding the case for further proceeding.
Justices also reversed a jury award of $96,233.75 in attorney’s fees.
