Man claims he was assaulted by Murphy Oil gas station employee's boyfriend while trying to buy gas

HOUSTON — A man claims an employee at a Murphy Oil gas station verbally assaulted him and then called her boyfriend and others to come to the station and physically attack him. 

Solomon Nwoko filed a complaint Oct. 28 in Harris County District Court against Murphy Oil USA Inc., alleging negligence. 

Nwoko states in his complaint that he was purchasing gas at the Murphy Oil gas station on West Belfort at Gessner on Feb. 16, 2020. He alleges he prepaid $30 for the gas, however when his car did not take that much gas, he went inside the store and asked the clerk to add other items onto his purchase to make up the difference. The clerk informed him he would have to. wait due to the upcoming shift change. 

He claims after the shift change, the same clerk became "abusive" and would not "alter" his sale. Nwoko alleges the clerk called her boyfriend "Nicholas" who showed up on the premises with two others and "viciously assaulted" him. Nwoko claims he suffered pain, disfigurement, physical impairment and incurred medical expenses as a result of his injuries. 

He accuses Murphy Oil of negligent hiring, supervision, training and retention that resulted in one of their employees allegedly assaulting him verbally and then arranging for him to be physical assaulted. 

Nwoko seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Craig Keener of Craig Keener PC in Houston.
