HOUSTON – The estate of a man who allegedly died from his injuries after being robbed in the parking lot of a Houston Kroger is claiming the grocery store's negligence.
Animesh Solanki and Prashant Solanki, co-executors of the Estate of Arjunlal Solanki; and Jashavanti Solanki filed a complaint on Jan. 14 in Harris County District Court against Kroger Texas LP, alleging negligence.
The plaintiffs allege in their complaint that while leaving the Kroger grocery store on Jones Road in Houston on Jan. 25, 2019, Arjunlal Solanki was robbed at gunpoint and pistol-whipped in the head.
The plaintiffs claim he suffered an "intracerebral hemorrhage" that required emergency medical treatment. They further allege Arjunlal Solanki's brain injury "ultimately resulted" in his death three months later. They claim Kroger is negligent for failing to "provide property security measures" and that the defendant should have known about the previous "violent and/or similar crimes" that took place in the area near the store.
The plaintiffs seek monetary relief of more than $1 million, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. They are represented by Ty Gibson and Brett Hill of Gibson Hill Personal Injury in Houston.
