HOUSTON — A woman who slipped and fell on spilled laundry soap at a Houston Family Dollar and suffered serious injuries is claiming negligence.

Rosa Almanza filed a complaint May 5 in Harris County District Court against Family Dollar Stores of Texas LLC alleging premises liability and negligence.

Almanza was shopping at the Family Dollar on Broadway in Houston on June 14, 2019, according to her suit. She alleges she slipped and fell on laundry detergent soap that had spilled on the floor and suffered injuries. Almanza claims the area where she fell was in "unreasonably dangerous" condition and the store "failed to remove, clean, and/or warn" of the hazard.

She further claims Family Dollar's negligence for failing to maintain and inspect its premises and for failing to take reasonable measures to protect invitees such as securing the area and not allowing the spill to remain on the floor.

Almanza seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by David Garcia and Tom Landry of The Dag Law Firm PC in Houston.
