HOUSTON — A woman claims the contractor she hired to fix Hurricane Harvey damage on her Houston home provided inferior work and abandoned the project even after receiving several payments.

Paula Vance filed a complaint July 22 in Harris County District Court against Abry Brothers Abilene LLC, Mark Dimitrijevic and Mad Holdings LLC alleging breach of contract, violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade & Practices Act and other claims.

Vance alleges in her complaint that after hiring the defendants on July 25, 2018, to fix foundation and structural issues that Hurricane Harvey caused to her home on Drummond Street in Houston, they took off with her money and abandoned the project. She further alleges that she was "bamboozled" with extra costs throughout the project by the defendants who caused many delays and that despite making numerous payments to the defendants, they provided defective workmanship. Vance claims she was left "homeless and displaced" for more than a year, had to rent an apartment to live in and was forced to spend more money to hire another contractor to "complete and fix" the defective construction work.

Vance seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Kip Patterson of Baker & Patterson LLP in Houston.
