HOUSTON — A woman alleges that permanent damage to her major joints was caused by the high doses of steroids she was prescribed by her physicians to treat her hives.

Brylen James filed a complaint Aug. 6 in Harris County District Court against Kelsey-Seybold Medical Group PLLC doing business as Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, Lyndalle F. Harrison, M.D., Jose Maria Ochoa, IV, M.D., and David P. Huston, M.D., alleging medical negligence.

According to her complaint, James, who is 26 years old, suffers from avascular necrosis in her shoulders, hips and her knees. She alleges that physicians have advised her that she will need multiple joint replacements for the remainder of her life.

James further alleges that because of the major joint replacements, she is likely to develop enhanced medical complications and has already suffered complications from a recent hip replacement. She claims in her suit that the avascular necrosis in all of her major joints was "medically caused by the massive, high doses of steroids" she was prescribed by the defendants' health care providers for the treatment of her hives.

James also claims the defendants breached the standard of care and were negligent in her treatment which has caused her to suffer incapacity, impairment, disability, lost earnings and incurred medical expenses. She alleges that the defendants should have known the risks of large doses of steroids administered over a prolonged period of time

James seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Craig Lewis of The Lewis Law Firm in Houston.
