Security guard sues after allegedly suffering on the job injury due to broken stairs

HOUSTON — A security guard who suffered an on the job injury when a set of stairs suddenly broke is claiming negligence. 

Amber McCormick filed a complaint Nov. 3 in Harris County District Court against Jindal Saw USA LLC and Tri-County Protection & Investigations LLC alleging negligence and premises liability. 

McCormick was employed by Tri-County as a security guard and was assigned to work Jindal's Baytown premises in Baytown on May 29, 2020, according to her complaint. She alleges that as she was leaving the office area and walking down the steps, the steps suddenly broke and cased her to fall to the ground. 

McCormick claims as a result of her fall, she suffered impairment, mental anguish, loss of earnings, physical pain and incurred medical and pharmaceutical expenses. She alleges the defendants' negligence for failing to properly maintain the stairs, failing to warn of the hazard and failing to timely repair the stairs. McCormick also alleges the defendants were negligent for failing to inspect the area and maintain a safe work place. 

McCormick seeks monetary relief of more than $200,000, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Sofia Bruera of The Bruera Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
