HOUSTON — An African American worker at a Houston-based industrial safety services company alleges he suffered discrimination and retaliation due to his race.

Correy Baskin filed a complaint Dec. 14 in Harris County District Court against Total Safety U.S., Inc., alleging retaliation, discrimination and other claims.

Baskin, an African American male, began working for Total Safety in 2015 and claims throughout his five years working for the company he faced "rampant" discrimination due to his race. He alleges the discrimination included failure to give him and other black workers training and the company allowing harassing and discriminatory speech.

Specifically, Baskin claims Caucasian employees with less experience and seniority were promoted over him and that he was denied receiving education reimbursements given to Caucasian workers. He also claims he suffered retaliation due to his complaints of discrimination and filing a Charge of Discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Baskin seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Attorney Brandon Monk in Beaumont.
