HOUSTON — A male nurse alleges he faced gender and disability discrimination while working at Memorial Hermann Health System.

Jericho Concepcion filed a complaint Feb. 8 in Harris County District Court against Memorial Hermann Health System doing business Memorial Hermann and Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital alleging sex, gender and disability discrimination.

Concepcion began working as a nurse in the defendant's pediatric intermediate care unit in May of 2020. He alleges that he was the only male nurse working on the floor and that his duties included being floated to work in the labor and delivery unit where he faced confrontation from patients' families.

In addition, Concepcion claims his female nurse co-workers communicated that they did not like having a male nurse in the unit which made him feel inadequate to perform in the workplace and caused anxiety. He further claims his supervisor dismissed his complaints and that his accommodation requests were denied.

According to his complaint, Concepcion was constructively terminated in April of 2021.

Concepcion seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $ 1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Gregg Rosenberg and Davina Bloom of Rosenberg & Associates in Houston.
