HOUSTON — A man injured in a plane explosion at Houston Executive Airport is claiming negligence.

Rex Roediger filed a complaint Feb. 14 in Harris County District Court against 987 Investments LLC, Tatonduk Outfitters LTD, Julie Kent, James Kent and others alleging negligence.

According to his complaint, Roediger was invited to travel to Boston on Oct. 18, 2021, on a trip arranged by the Kents. He alleges that the Kents arranged to use a 33-year old McDonald Douglas passenger plane, the MD87, which was owned by 987 Investments and Tatoduk Outfitters. Roedier alleges that an explosion took place as the plane took off from Houston Executive Airport in Brookshire and that the plane overshot the runway and ran into a power line and burst into flames.

He claims the accident caused him to suffer injuries to his face, head, neck, arms, legs and other parts of his body. Roediger claims the defendants' negligence for failing to select an adequate aircraft crew or conduct adequate maintenance or properly supervise aircraft operations. He also claims the defendants failed to provide adequate medical treatment or warn of the "active and hazardous line."

Roediger seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Jason Itkin, Noah Wexler and Ben Bireley of Arnold & Itkin LLP.
