Greenberg Traurig Attorneys Recognized in Lawdragon’s ‘500 Leading Lawyers in America’

Greenberg Traurig LLP recently issued the following announcement on Mar. 2.

Six shareholders at global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP,  Ian C. Ballon, Johnine P. Barnes, Lori G. Cohen, Ernest LaMont Greer, Karen M. Kennard, and A. Michael Pratt, appear in Lawdragon’s 2022 guide for “500 Leading Lawyers in America.”

In its 17th edition, this guide compiles honorees through editorial research, submissions, and nominations to highlight the top legal professionals across the industry. The 500 lawyers listed represent the judiciary, public interest, commercial litigators, plaintiff advocates, dealmakers, disability lawyers, and more.

Ballon is an intellectual property and internet litigator and is the co-chair of the firm’s Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice. He represents clients in copyright, DMCA, trademark, trade secret, right of publicity, privacy, security, software, database, and Internet- and mobile-related disputes, and in the defense of data privacy, cybersecurity breach, adtech, and behavioral advertising, TCPA, and other Internet-related class action suits. He is also the author of West's 5-volume legal treatise, E-Commerce and Internet Law 2d edition (www.IanBallon.net) and Executive Director of Stanford Law School's Center for the Digital Economy.

Barnes, who is recognized by Lawdragon 500 as Leading Lawyer in America and as a Leading U.S. Corporate Employment Lawyer, is a shareholder in the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice and chair of the Washington, D.C. Labor & Employment Practice. She is experienced in litigating and defending employment claims of harassment, retaliation, discrimination, wrongful discharge, and breach of contract, as well as business litigation matters. Barnes has experience handling noncompete agreement and contract disputes, trade secret matters, international disputes, white collar crime claims, property interest disputes, and legislative matters.

Cohen is vice chair of Greenberg Traurig and serves as co-chair of the firm’s Global Litigation Practice, leading a group of over 600 attorneys nationally and internationally. She is co-chair of the Trial Practice Group, her “brainchild” which she created at Greenberg Traurig. Upon joining the firm, she also built the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Health Care Litigation Practice. Under Cohen’s leadership, this practice rose through the ranks and grew to include over 140 attorneys in more than 30 offices in the U.S. and globally. In 2021, the group was named Law360’s  “Product Liability Practice Group of the Year.”

Greer is co-president of Greenberg Traurig and plays a key role in the strategic direction of the firm and firm-wide, day-to-day operations. He is dedicated to continuing to shape the firm’s brand as a collaborative law firm providing high-quality legal work and excellent service to clients and the communities it serves. He also serves as chairman of the Washington, D.C. office. Previously, Greer served as vice president of the firm, co-chair of the U.S. Strategic Committee, and Atlanta office managing shareholder. Greer is an outstanding leader and champion for his community and his accomplishments and legal practice have been recognized by many industry publications and organizations including his recent induction into the Junior Achievement Atlanta Business Hall of Fame.

Kennard is a shareholder in the Government Law & Policy Practice. She focuses her practice on government law, policy, and regulatory matters with an emphasis on municipal local government issues. Kennard’s experience spans more than two decades and includes positions as city attorney for the City of Austin, Texas and General Counsel for the Texas Municipal League.

Pratt is a highly accomplished litigator and leader in Philadelphia’s legal and civic communities. He concentrates his practice on complex commercial and product liability disputes, having tried cases in state and federal courts, representing financial institutions, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, product manufacturers, and governmental institutions, among others.
