HOUSTON - A recently filed lawsuit is alleging an intoxicated 18-wheeler driver caused an automobile collision that resulted in a woman’s death.

The estate of Miriam Buentello filed suit against E.M.A. Transport Services and Pablo Isai Frias on April 20 in Harris County District Court.

The plaintiffs in the case are represented by VB Attorneys Vuk Vujasinovic and Jose Calderon.

Calderon released the following statement on the case: "Local authorities allege Pablo Isai Frias was intoxicated when he rear ended Ms. Buentello's vehicle at highway speeds at around 11:35am on April 18, 2022 on I-10 in Houston, Texas. Ms. Buentello suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision. Frias was subsequently arrested on intoxication manslaughter charges. We have filed a lawsuit against Mr. Frias and his employer."

According to the lawsuit, Frias was on the job with E.M.A. and driving an 18-wheeler on I-10 near McCarty St. when he crashed into the rear of an SUV operated by Buentello, causing her to sustain injuries that led to her death.

Frias has been charged with felony intoxication manslaughter in connection with the crash, the suit states.

The suit is accusing the defendants of gross negligence.
