Morgan Lewis associate James Nortey has been honored by the Houston Business Journal as an Outstanding Diversity Champion as part of its 2022 Diversity in Business Awards. This award recognizes James for his initiative to promote diversity and inclusion within the community and the firm and make a positive difference in others’ lives through contributions to social justice, equality, and diversity.

James is a leader in the firm’s Mobilizing for Equality Leadership Task Force and an associate representative for the firm’s Black Lawyer Network. Immediately following the murder of George Floyd, Morgan Lewis launched the Mobilizing for Equality initiative with 14 individual working groups focused on a variety of key priorities, including education and opportunity, voting rights, conversations on privilege and anti-racism, and law enforcement policy. James serves as co-lead of the Community Engagement and Volunteerism Working Group, which creates and tracks opportunities for volunteerism for racial justice across the firm.

In addition to being a talented trial lawyer, James serves as board chair of Austin Achieve Public Schools and the Texas Civil Rights Project, and was also a Pathfinder for the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity. James also has been shortlisted by Chambers as a finalist in the Diversity & Inclusion: Future Leader category.
