Lawsuits

HOUSTON — Two daughters claim a fall off a ramp at a Harris County courthouse contributed to their mother's death.

Dee Young & Diana Young filed a complaint May 29 in Harris County District Court against Harris County Texas alleging premises liability.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs are the surviving children of Dena Beth McLain Young. They allege their mother was at the courthouse located on Clayton Parkway in Humble on Feb. 18, 2022. to register her car. The plaintiffs claim Dena Young was using the ramp leading into the courthouse which had orange cones around it but no cones blocking the entrance to the ramp.

They further claim there were no handrails on the ramp and that Young tripped on the right side of the ramp, fell to the ground and broke her hip and shoulder. According to the suit, Young, who was 63 years old, was taken to Northeast Medical Center and died six days later due to her liver disease.

The plaintiffs allege Harris County failed to have handrails installed despite the ramp being designed to have handrails in place and allowed the ramp to be open for use with no warning signs to indicate danger. They also claim Harris County failed to eliminate the risk which caused Young's fall and contributed to her death.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Chris Bell of The Law Office of Chris Bell in Houston.
