HOUSTON — A woman alleges she was struck in the head by falling concrete pieces from drilling work being done in a parking garage.

Vilvia Williams filed a complaint June 6 in Harris County District Court against Advanta-Kleen Sealcoat and Striping alleging negligence.

Williams, according to her complaint, had just finished her shift at a hospital on Jan. 17, 2021, and was heading to the parking garage. She claims that Advanta-Kleen had crew members drilling into the garage floor above where she was walking. Williams alleges the drilling caused large pieces of concrete and rebar to suddenly fall from the ceiling and onto her head and for her to suffer injuries to her head and neck.

She claims Advanta-Kleen failed to post warning signs about the drilling, failed to have blockades in the area and did not properly train its work crew. Williams also claims Advanta-Kleen failed to implement adequate safety measures or enforce existing safety protocols while drilling. She alleges as a result of being struck by the concrete pieces, she also suffered pain, impairment, disfigurement and incurred medical treatment expenses.

Williams seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Joshua Lee and Aaron Bender of Armstrong & Lee LLP in Houston.
