HOUSTON – A Harris County resident's purported mishap with a gas range is the subject of a lawsuit filed in the 157th State District Court on June 21, per recent Harris County District Court records.
Plaintiff John Petrie filed a lawsuit in the Harris County District Court against defendants BCI Appliance Installations, L.L.C.; Ferguson Enterprises, L.L.C., doing business as Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery; Seasonal Comfort Company; and Pelican Builders, Inc., citing negligence.
According to the lawsuit, Petrie was cooking a dinner consisting of steak and potatoes on a Wolf Gas Range for his family on November 7, 2021, when the entire appliance tipped over. The incident occurred so quickly to where the plaintiff had little to no time to react, the original petition explains. Petrie adds that he was subsequently scalded by the hot water and oil/grease from the gas range.
The suit asserts that the 73-year-old sustained multiple second-degree burns to his body, stating that not even reconstructive surgery won't help him return to his pre-incident self because of his age.
The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $1,000,000 for his injuries, medical bills, pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of income, plus interest, court costs, and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by attorneys Chad Pinkerton and Joe DeLeon of The Pinkerton Law Firm, PLLC in Houston.
