HOUSTON — A Home Depot customer alleges a spilled liquid near the store's exit caused her to fall and be knocked unconscious.

Francine Trotter filed a complaint Oct. 18 in Harris County District Court against Home Depot U.S.A., Inc., alleging negligence.

According to her complaint, Trotter was at the Home Depot store in Houston on April 18, 2021. She claims as she walked toward the exit, she slipped on "some liquid that was spilled on the floor." Trotter further alleges she fell and lost consciousness and suffered "serious and painful" bodily injuries. She claims Home Depot's negligence for creating the unreasonably dangerous condition, for failing to place caution signs or other warnings about the liquid or barricading off the area.

Trotter alleges that Home Depot was also negligent for failing to make the condition safe by cleaning up the spilled liquid from the area and for not properly inspecting or maintaining its premises. In addition, Trotter alleges in her complaint that she suffered impairment, disfigurement, mental anguish and incurred medical expenses as a result of her slip and fall at the Home Depot.

Trotter seeks monetary relief of $250,000 or less, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Josie Monconduit of Godsey Martin PC in Houston.
