HOUSTON — An African American male alleges he suffered years of humiliation in a hostile work environment while working for AT&T.
Marvin Mitchell filed a complaint June 11 in Harris County District Court against AT&T alleging discrimination and other claims.
According to his complaint, Mitchell, an African American veteran, claims he was forced to retire from AT&T after 25-years because of a hostile work environment. Specifically, Mitchell claims that the discrimination began in 2005, with his supervisor creating a humiliating photoshop picture of him with a wig and makeup and disseminating it throughout the department.
He claims that the photo was put on the monitor screen during a manager meeting and that for years, the photo appeared and was circulated despite his complaints to management. Mitchell further claims that after complaining about the harassment, he faced poor reviews, denial of pay raises and that AT&T allowed the hostile work environment for years until his constructive discharge.
Mitchell seeks monetary relief between $100,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Lucy Nkechinyelumka Chukwurah of The NLC Law Group PLLC in Houston.
