HOUSTON - A father is suing the Houston Marriott North hotel and other parties, alleging his minor daughter sustained injuries as a result of an in-room accident.
Plaintiff Okinyi Ayungo is suing on behalf of himself and his daughter in a suit against Sunstone Cowboy Lessee LP doing business as Houston Marriott North, Driftwood Hospitality Management II, doing business as Driftwood Hospitality Management, Hospitality Finishes and G.L. Renovation Services, Inc. The suit was filed July 31 in the District Court of Harris County.
According to discovery documents,, the plaintiff says he and his child were staying as paying guests at the Houston Marriott North hotel on Aug. 7, 2021. In the room there was a sliding glass door separating the bathroom from the remainder of the hotel room, which the suit alleges was installed by the Defendant Contractor and supplied by the Defendant supplier.
The suit states that the minor used the bathroom, then, “As Minor was preparing to exit the bathroom the sliding door fell off of its track, crashed to the ground. When it did, shards of glass lodged into Minor’s body, resulting in several lacerations.”
The plaintiff contends the hotel had knowledge of the dangerous condition of the sliding glass door and that he should have been warned about it. The suit also alleges the door supplied by Hospitality Finishes was defective, and that safer designs existed that would have reduced the risk of injury. The suit alleges and that G.L. Renovation improperly installed the door.
The plaintiff is asking for past and future medical expenses; mental anguish; and physical pain, disfigurement and impairment. A jury trial has been requested.
